RL "Rob" Hulsman

RL "Rob" Hulsman's decades-long drum career began in the same way many did, in front of a pair of speakers listening to Peter Criss's Alive drum solo. Though Neil Peart, Nick Mason, Terry Bozzio, Jim Keltner and many others would eventual influence the young sticksman, he went on to study in person with Jim Campbell at the University of Kentucky and then to play with the likes of Nine Pound Hammer, The Tarbox Ramblers, The Scissormen and many more.

"Living in Kentucky, I was lucky to get the chance to study with Jim. I got a fast road education touring with Hammer, and got the opportunity to play with some great musicians, like Greg Martin from the Kentucky Headhunters."

Hulsman moved from Kentucky to Boston in 2000 and quickly established himself on the scene, playing with Dana Colley, Jerome Deupree and Billy Conway of Morphine, as well as Monique Ortiz, AKACOD, John Sinclair and many others. It was through his association with Boston mainstays and Rounder Recording artists the Tarbox Ramblers that led to a career highlight, playing drums for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss during their debut duet performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Lead Belly tribute concert in Cleveland.

"That show was a blast. I got to play with one of my personal heroes, sit in with great musicians like Jon Langford and Dan Zanes, and meet legends Odetta and Harry Belafonte in person."
Another big moment came for Hulsman in 2005, when he was asked to begin regularly contributing to Drum! magazine. It was a perfect match, given his penchant for being a bit of a gearhead.

"I'm such a super fan when it comes to drums; I'm always checking out new stuff. It's the eternal hunt for cool new gear to led me to BCDC. I ended up with one of Chris's snares because it matched my kit," laughs Hulsman. "But, once I started playing it regularly, I absolutely fell in love with the sound. I primarily play vintage drums, but Bucks County Drums are the first new drums I've really dug in some time. They remind me of the great American drums of the heyday of the 1950s and 60s. I'm proud to play BCDC."

You can catch RL playing his Bucks County Drum Company drums with the Scissormen in the upcoming Robert Mugge documentary, "Big Shoes," and on tour in Europe with Nine Pound Hammer.

Boone Daughdrill

Boone was raised in the small town of New Hebron, MS, which is where he fell in love with the drums at a very young age. He got his start by constructing drum kits out of five gallon buckets, coffee cans, hubcaps and even the kitchen sink. He joined the school band in the fifth grade and continued to play all the way through high school. This led to college scholarships where he majored in Welding his first year. After a few months of extremely hot temperatures welding, he decided to go back to college to pursue a degree in Music Education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS.

While in college, he played with a Top-40 cover band, Big Daddy Rabbit and the CaneCutters. They played bars, clubs and fraternity parties all over southern MS. At this time, he was also staying busy with studio and fill in gigs. During the days he spent his time at Brookhaven Music and Sound Company giving drum lessons to aspiring young drummers and sharing his love for music and drums.

At the age of 23, he surrendered his life to Christ. Feeling God leading him in a new direction, he packed up his drums and moved to Nashville, TN. While in Nashville, he had the opportunity to play for several christian artists such as Zoe Girl, Jump 5, Jill Paquette, Kimberly Perry, and Casting Crowns. Eventually, DecembeRadio met Boone and the rest, as they say, is history.

DecembeRadio has been nominated for 7 Dove Awards, winning Rock Album of the Year in 2007 and 2009. They were also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Album of 2007 and nominated by Billboard Magazine's Top 10 Bands to Watch for 2006. One of their songs, Dangerous have been used on CBS's "Cain" and as theme song for Discover Channels "Hazard Pay."

Paul Bonney

Age: 32
Instrument: Drums
Height: average

Musical influences: Frank Zappa, Led Zeppellin, Captain Beefheart, Peter Greenbaum, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cream, Robert Johnson, Black Keys, Ground Hogs, Egg, The Beatles, The Who, John McLaughlin, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davies, Herbie Hancock, The Allman Brothers, Bert Jansch, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Early Genesis, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd...These are just a few to mention; the list is endless!

“I absolutely adore my hobbies, one of which is watching Manchester United – who as a Salford native are my home team. I am Red all the way through! I go regularly to the match with my son Jack, the buzz is amazing and watching my lads face light up when they score is a memory for life!! Playing snooker with my dad is another; he just can't get enough of that sport and I also enjoy hacking my way around a golf course. And not to mention DRINKING, each one of my hobbies involves that at some point!!! Ha ha.
I spend most of my time with the future wife, Karina, and the kids, Jack and Katie. They are absolutely mad. Jack is a keen footballer and Katie does ballet and tap dancing; she has also just learnt the bass drum and snare drum pattern to 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond' and she's only 4yrs old! Karina is the maddest of all. They are all brilliant!!

I started drumming at the age of 5 in a tiny marching band. I started to progress through high school listening to big band jazz, mainly Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and Max Roach. I then studied music at Salford College University for three years, before joining The Australian Pink Floyd, playing in big bands and listening to lots of jazz and rag time bands. I then got introduced to Zeppelin, Floyd and Peter Greenbaum. That was it, I was off …

Drum wise I have just recently been endorsed by Bucks County Drum Co. which is a new company from Philadelphia, with the owner Chris Carr. The drums are outstanding, which I’m obviously gonna' say! They have that old Ludwig acoustic sound about them, which is lush. They sound huge and the bass drums I have are 24" deep x 22" which are like cannons. The finish is champagne sparkle. I also have Bucks County and Ludwig black beauty snares, Zyldjian A Custom cymbals and DW hardware and pedals. I also have a deal with Pro Mark sticks thanks to Mick Reece.”

Bradlee Beats
(Brad Cumberbatch)

Born and raised in Bucks County, PA, Bradlee has been an avid supporter of Bucks County Custom Drums from day one. Currently, Bradlee is the drummer/percussionist for the Philadelphia soul/hip-hop group The Hustle (www.myspace.com/thehustleband), who have been making for quite a buzz in and around the city for their fresh, invigorating and positive brand of cross-genre funk music. The band recently released it's first EP entitled "The 4-5-6 EP" (availible on iTunes) and has continued to extensively tour the tri-state area, with plans to bring their new brand of rock music to the masses with reckless abandon.

Bradlee's touring Bucks County Custom Drum set consists of a 13'' x 5'' maple snare, 8'' and 14'' toms, and his cannon-sized 22'' x 22'' bass drum, all wrapped in their signature orange flame wrap with gold hardware.

Bradlee also performs wi th his collaboration project [The] Lizards from Mars (www.myspace.com/lizardsfrommars) with fellow friend and guitarist Tom Copson, Jr. (also a member of The Hustle). Unlike The Hustle, The Lizards from Mars allows Bradlee complete freedom to explore his interests in free-form jazz and jam music as well as incorporating elements of fusion, world music and of course, funk. Previously, Bradlee has also performed with various Philadelphia artists such as Peter Curie & Mad Ludwig (www.myspace.com/peterkurie), the indie rock outfit A Paper Tiger/Vershara (www.myspace.com/vershara) and has made guest appearances with The Burndown Allstars (www.myspace.com/burndownallstars). From 1998-2002, Bradlee also toured New England extensively with the Boston outfit "Who's The Fat Guy?" (www.myspace.com/whosthefatguy) and the band was nominated for "Best Funk Band" in 2001 at the Boston Music Awards.

Additionally, Bradlee has remained committed to his desire to work in the entertainment industry, attending law school at night while performing with his music projects.

Bradlee's primary influences include drummers/musicians John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Questlove (The Roots), Danny Carey (Tool), Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Tim Alexander (Primus), Sterwart Copeland (The Police), Bob Marley & Brad Nowell (Sublime).
